Litgrid has launched Transmission network consumption capacity map

Lithuania’s electricity transmission system operator Litgrid has launched a new digital tool – the Transmission network consumption capacity map. The map provides information on where and at what capacity electricity consumers could be connected to the transmission network, based on previously completed assessments. It is intended for customers with significant electricity demand, including industrial companies, data centre, electrolysis and other energy project developers planning investments in Lithuania.

The new map displays locations where Litgrid has assessed the feasibility of connecting consumption facilities – both in response to customer enquiries and through its own analyses. Each assessment point indicates the maximum capacity at a specific location that has been evaluated and could potentially be connected to the transmission network.

The map is available here.

“Assessing consumption opportunities requires an individual evaluation of each specific location within the network. As interest from developers continues to grow, we are accumulating an increasing number of completed assessments. By publishing this information publicly, we aim to ensure transparent access to data for all market participants. We hope this will help investors to assess potential grid connection points more quickly and efficiently and to plan their projects accordingly,” says Ignas Junevičius, Head of the Renewable energy centre at Litgrid.

The map is recommended as one of the first steps when planning the connection of new consumption facilities to the transmission network. Before submitting a request for consultation, the company invites interested parties to review the information provided on previously completed assessments.

The published data are preliminary and reflect the results of assessments carried out in the past. Current connection opportunities may differ; therefore, each case is subject to an individual evaluation. If customers apply regarding a new location or request a higher capacity than already published, anonymised assessment results will be additionally published on the map. The Consumption capacity map complements the existing Litgrid generation capacity map (link), which was updated in August 2025. The company also plans to expand the scope of publicly available information. Over the course of the year, it intends to systematically carry out and publish detailed calculations for all major network nodes, enabling developers to view transmission network capacities at all Litgrid substations.

This year, detailed calculations are planned for the new Transmission network consumption capacity map, which will allow for regular assessment and publication of consumer connection opportunities across all Litgrid substations.

The new tool creates an equivalent to the consumption capacity maps already provided by the distribution system operator and ensures that official analytical tools are available to all types of customers – developers of renewable energy sources, energy storage facilities and consumption projects alike – regardless of the connection voltage level.
