Baltic Sea TSOs met to discuss regional energy sector developments

On 18th March 2021, a remote meeting between the Baltic Sea region transmission system operators (TSOs) was held to address issues of mutual interest as well as to exchange views on ongoing energy projects in the field.

Key topics of the meeting were: status updates on general questions such as national electricity systems developments; information regarding more regional questions – synchronisation status update, and new Nordic TSOs strategy; focus on offshore wind national developments and discussion on regional basis as well as updates on adequacy topics, regional market issues from CCR Baltic and CCR Nordic perspectives.

Such meetings are regularly held every half a year and this time was hosted by Litgrid, Lithuanian TSO.

“We in Lithuania pay particular importance to issues regularly addressed within this forum, namely – synchronisation status updates and shift towards renewables. The meeting was very timely and relevant”, notes Liutauras Varanavičius, Director of Strategy Department at Litgrid. “We also see that offshore wind projects are gaining importance: all participating countries shared their detailed plans for the first time and agreed to cooperate in this field.”

Baltic Sea Leaders is a cooperation format between high level representatives from 7 Baltic Sea countries (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Poland) plus Norway as an observing country.
