Electricity transmission system operators will cooperate to ensure system adequacy
The operators of the nine Baltic Sea Region countries will work together to ensure the adequacy of the region’s electricity system. The decision was taken by the leaders of Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid, Latvian AST, Estonian Elering, Danish Energinet, Finnish Fingrid, Swedish Svenska kraftnät, Norwegian Statnett, Polish PSE and German 50Hertz at a meeting of the leaders of the Baltic Sea Region’s transmission system operators in Tallinn on 28 June.
The meeting discussed the impact of gas supply disruptions due to the war in Ukraine and the impact of the suspension of electricity imports from Russia on electricity generation capacity in the Baltic Sea region during the autumn and winter seasons of 2022-2023.
“We return from this meeting with a clear position for the region's transmission system operators to work together to address the challenges facing all of us: we will exchange data on energy imports and generation capacity, analyse the overall adequacy of the system and prepare to manage potential risks together. The adequacy of the region's electricity system is a shared responsibility of all of us. Working together, we will fulfil the operators’ mission - to ensure reliable electricity supply to every home, institution and business organisation,” says Donatas Matelionis, Director of the System Management Department of the electricity transmission system operator Litgrid.
