Construction of Kruonio HAE-Bitenai 330 kV overhead line

Status: Construction works for Phase I completed, ONgoing design activities for Phase II, construction activities in the Phase II range.
The aim of the project

To strengthen the Western electricity transmission network, to ensure its reliable operation by forming a new 330 kV electricity transmission line, which is important for the smooth synchronous operation of the Lithuanian electricity system with the electricity grid of continental Europe.

Significance of the project

Synchronisation with the Central European Synchronous Area (CESA)is the last step towards Lithuania’s energy independence. Currently, our electricity system is still dependent on frequency control in Russia, but already in 2025, it will operate in one synchronous area together with the systems of other European countries.

The Kruonis HPP-Bitėnai electricity transmission line is one of the synchronisation projects that will integrate a new Harmony Link interconnector with Poland into the Lithuanian electricity system, as well as ensure security of electricity supply in the regions bordering with Kaliningrad.

General project information

The Kruonis HPP-Bitėnai 330 kV power transmission line project includes the reconstruction of part of the existing Jurbarkas-Bitėnai line from one circuit to a two-circuit line. The reconstruction of the existing line planned for almost 39 km will be carried out using the existing infrastructure corridor. Here the old supports will be replaced with new ones, the protection zone will not change.

A new section of approximately 62 km from the Jurbarkas-Bitėnai line to the Kruonis HPP-Sovetsk line will also be built. A new protection zone will be formed here, supports will be built, wires will be laid.

Another 110 km will form part of the existing line Kruonis HPP-Sovietskas, where no works are planned.
