Regarding the public information about the possibility for the Baltic States to increase the share of the electricity from Russia and Belarus

Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid, in response to public information that the Baltic countries are negotiating the possibility of increasing the flow of the electricity from Russia and Belarus, informs that such discussions are not taking place.

„Litgrid calculates the capacity with Belarus or Russia in accordance with the methodology approved by the National Energy Regulatory Council which specifies the amount of the electricity - we cannot deviate from the values specified in the methodology. It is technically impossible to change anything now”, says Rokas Masiulis, CEO of Litgrid.

He emphasizes that the current discussion with the neighbouring Latvian electricity transmission system operator AST is only about how to make Lithuanian and Latvian methodologies more similar.

“We have been working according to the updated methodology for some time and we see that sometimes the technical capacities according to our methodology and the capacities for trade fluctuate too much. Therefore, we are talking about how to calibrate the methodological formulas used by different countries”, says R. Masiulis.

The CEO of Litgrid also emphasizes that there is no reason to claim that changing the capacities of electricity transmission with Belarus or Russia would affect the wholesale price of electricity in Lithuania.
