Litgrid invites to test a 1 MW battery

Litgrid, Lithuania's electricity transmission system operator, is opening up the infrastructure of its pilot 1 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), which has been deployed together with Fluence, to science, business, manufacturers and the whole market.

We are creating an open and transparent model for the use of the 1 MW battery for new, innovative projects. We invite you to use the company's innovation platform to test your innovative idea in a joint innovation project.

Litgrid provides its infrastructure as a testing ground under the most favourable conditions.

Who can participate in the project?

Anyone interested in innovation in the energy sector - electricity market players (producers, consumers and demand aggregators), developers and/or manufacturers of new battery parks, research organisations, etc. - are welcome to test their ideas, solutions or simply assess the potential of a 1 MW battery.

What are the possible research directions?

The research areas may depend on the activities and experience of the participants, such as:

Market participants are invited to carry out research on the interaction of conventional and renewable energy sources (RES) with the BESS, consumption reserve, flexibility services;

New BESS developers are invited to collaborate on design issues, connection conditions and requirements, and test results;

Research organisations have perhaps the widest range of opportunities: research on power system operation, BESS technology and control algorithm improvements;

Transmission system operators are invited to test network parameter assurance and optimisation options, as well as solutions for virtual grids, virtual power plants and synthetic inertia.

Where to apply?

Organisations and individuals interested in developing joint innovation projects, conducting research with a 1 MW battery or simply getting more information about Litgrid's innovation platform are invited to contact Audrius Baranauskas, Head of Innovations, [email protected]
