Construction of Vilnius-Neris 330 kV overhead line

Status: construction phase ongoing.

The aim of the project

To strengthen the Vilnius electricity hub by ensuring the reliability of electricity supply after synchronisation with the continental European grid and to satisfy the growing electricity demand of the capital by constructing a 330 kV electricity transmission line connecting Vilnius and Neris 330 kV transformer substations.

Significance of the project

By implementing the strategic goals of the state and reorienting the Lithuanian electricity system to work in synchronous mode with the continental European networks, reliable electricity transmission must be ensured and the security of electricity supply must be increased.

Synchronisation with the Central European Synchronous Area (CESA) is the last step towards Lithuania’s energy independence. Currently, our electricity system is still dependent on frequency control in Russia, but already in 2025, it will operate in one synchronous area together with the systems of other European countries.

After the synchronisation, the new Vilnius-Neris line is needed to ensure the reliability of electricity supply in Vilnius. It will also strengthen the Vilnius city electricity hub and create conditions for further expansion of the network to meet the growing demand of the city and district electricity.

Project details
