Benefit from interconnections NordBalt and LitPol Link could reach LTL 180 million per year
Lithuania imports almost two thirds of all its consumed electricity, therefore, possibilities for importing it for a competitive price from sources, which produce vast amounts of electricity, are significant for the whole national economy. “If the interconnections with Sweden and Poland were operating now, the current prices in the Nord Pool Spot Lithuanian bidding area would decrease by 1.8 ct/kWh, and the annual benefit would reach LTL 180 million,” claims Daivis Virbickas, chairman of the Board and CEO of the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid.

The transmission grid development plan includes infrastructure projects up to 2022
On 10 October 2013, electricity transmission system operator Litgrid will present its ten-year grid development plan, prepared and up-dated on an annual basis. The goal of this presentation is to give a more detailed account of the key grid development projects for 2013-2022, to listen to issues raised by the public and businesses, and to take said into account where possible.

Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid and A. Žilinskio ir Ko, a company engaged in the design and construction of electricity equipment, have signed an agreement on the reconstruction and expansion works of the 330 kV switchyard of the Alytus transformer substation.

Generation and transmission capacity shortage in the Baltic region raises prices on the power exchange
After generation at Finland's Olkiluoto 2 nuclear reactor stopped unexpectedly on 9 September, electricity supply in Finland decreased. Electricity shortages and growing demand are causing a significant spike in electricity prices in Finland and in the Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian bidding areas of Nord Pool Spot, the common Nordic-Baltic electricity power exchange. Wholesale electricity prices in the Lithuanian bidding area of the Nord Pool Spot exchange reached 27 cents per kilowatt-hour (ct/kWh) today. Today's increase in the price of electricity in Lithuania (and Latvia) was also impacted by the limited electricity imports from Estonia and Russia due to power transmission line repairs.

Litgrid Complies with the Requirements of EU Third Energy Package – the Company Has Been Granted a TSO Licence of Unlimited Duration
The procedure for the certification of Litgrid, Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator (TSO), was successfully completed today in accordance with the provisions of the European Union Third Energy Package that obliges the Member States to separate the electricity transmission operations from the power and gas generation and distribution.
