On 6 August 2014, the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid and Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) signed an agreement on 50 million euro loan for a period of ten years.

Hydroelectric power plants generated one tenth of the electricity consumed in May, in Lithuania
Hydroelectric power plants operating in Lithuania generated 83 million kilowatt-hour electricity, or one tenth of the electricity consumed during the last month in the country.

The NordBalt project is successfully conquering the Baltic Sea
One third of the international power link NordBalt cable has already been laid on the seabed of the Baltic Sea, while other land works are being smoothly carried out on both Lithuanian and Swedish sides: underground cables are being laid, pouring of foundations for converters stations will commence shortly.

The Lithuanian High Voltage Electricity Transmission Network is Safe
Extensive measurements taken this spring have confirmed safe magnitudes of electromagnetic fields that occur around high voltage electricity transmission networks. The electricity transmission system operator Litgrid, who carried out the works, analysed over 30 areas throughout Lithuania.

Local Power Production Slowed Down the Rise of Market Prices
From 2nd to 8th of June the average price of electricity in the Nord Pool Spot exchange‘s Lithuanian trading area was 23 ct per kilowatt hour. Due to planned repair works on power plants and a low supply of electricity in the Scandinavian countries, the prices of electricity remained relatively high in Finland and Estonia‘s trading areas, while the supply of electricity produced by local power plants in Lithuania and Latvia did not reduce the market prices.

Conservationists and environmental consultants will oversee LitPol Link construction
A campaign to protect wildlife habitats along the route of the Lithuania-Poland power link LitPol Link commenced this week. Prior to each stage of the construction, environmental consultants and conservationists will examine and monitor wildlife habitats in the area where the power link is being constructed.

One hundred kilometres of NordBalt cable has been laid
A special ship Topaz Installer has made a second trip into the Baltic Sea to install another 50 kilometre section of a submarine cable which is part of the NordBalt power link to connect Lithuania and Sweden.

LitPol Link’s construction starts in Alytus
On 5 of May the district of Alytus in Lithuania has officially announced the start of the construction of a power link between Lithuania and Poland, LitPol Link. The construction works will start this year and continue next year. LitPol Link will be put into operation at the end of December 2015.

NordBalt Cable Laying Begins in the Baltic Sea
On April 11 a special ship that arrived at the Baltic Sea coast early in the morning laid the first meters of submarine cables through the prepared pipes leading towards the Curonian Spit, and began one of the major stages of constructing a 450-kilometre-long international power link – laying the cable across the bottom of the Baltic Sea.
