Construction of the LitPol Link power interconnection with Poland, one of Lithuania’s most important current energy projects, is rapidly pushing forward, with 45 percent of planned works now complete. As of mid-October, a third of the transmission pylons for the high-voltage power line planned in Lithuanian territory are already in place, construction of facilities for the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) back-to-back converter station is underway, and reconstruction of the Alytus transformer substation is nearing completion.

New High-Voltage Transmission Line Successfully Launched
Electricity has begun flowing through the new high-voltage power transmission line running from Klaipėda to Telšiai. This is the first 330 kV power transmission line to be built in Lithuania since the restoration of independence.

Environmentalists and energy specialists help save a rare plant species
With construction of the Lithuania-Poland power link LitPol Link gathering pace and work underway in Lazdijai District, environmentalists together with energy specialists have removed an endangered species from the power link’s route – the early marsh orchid (Dactylorhiza incarnata), which is also called the Lithuanian orchid. The plants were relocated to a safer nearby site.

Specialists continue environmental monitoring of the territory for construction of the LitPol Link ‘power bridge’
Environmental consultants from the Lithuanian Fund for Nature have been studying the route for the LitPol Link power interconnection for two months now, in an effort to protect the unique ecosystem in the southern part of Lithuania and reduce the impact that the ongoing construction work might have on the environment.

Summer work on the NordBalt link crowned by the cable being pulled through the Curonian Lagoon
On August 22-23, one of the most difficult stages of this summer’s NordBalt cable work will be implemented: a cable more than 1.5 kilometres long will be pulled through two pipes under the Curonian Lagoon, from the Klaipėda industrial region to Alksnynė.

The electricity market survived the July heat
The average price of electricity in the Lithuanian bidding area on the Nord Pool Spot exchange in July was 19.8 cents per kilowatt hour. The record heat caused electricity consumption to increase by 10 per cent in Lithuania and 5 per cent in Latvia.
