Litgrid and Svenska kraftnät, Lithuanian and Swedish transmission system operators, have signed a contract with Hitachi Energy to upgrade the control system of NordBalt HVDC interconnector. During the upgrade, control system logic, which will enhance grid stability of the Baltic countries and Sweden, will be installed.

Baltic TSOs have sent a notice on decoupling from Russia-controlled electricity system in February 2025
Elering, AST, and Litgrid, electricity transmission system operators (TSOs) of the Baltic states, have notified Russian and Belarusian operators on the non-extension of the BRELL agreement, which is bound to expire in February of 2025. At that time, the three Baltic states will decouple from Russian and Belarusian grids to join the Continental Europe Synchronous Area.

Harmony Link onshore AC interconnector confirmed as technically feasible
The results of a power flows and dynamic feasibility study confirmed that the Harmony Link onshore AC electricity interconnector between Lithuania and Poland can be a viable technical alternative to offshore HVDC link. The study was carried out by the Institute of Power Engineering, Gdansk Division, Poland, on behalf of the Lithuanian, Polish, Latvian, and Estonian transmission system operators (TSOs).
