Baltic TSOs have sent a notice on decoupling from Russia-controlled electricity system in February 2025

Elering, AST, and Litgrid, electricity transmission system operators (TSOs) of the Baltic states, have notified Russian and Belarusian operators on the non-extension of the BRELL agreement, which is bound to expire in February of 2025. At that time, the three Baltic states will decouple from Russian and Belarusian grids to join the Continental Europe Synchronous Area.

Harmony Link onshore AC interconnector confirmed as technically feasible

The results of a power flows and dynamic feasibility study confirmed that the Harmony Link onshore AC electricity interconnector between Lithuania and Poland can be a viable technical alternative to offshore HVDC link. The study was carried out by the Institute of Power Engineering, Gdansk Division, Poland, on behalf of the Lithuanian, Polish, Latvian, and Estonian transmission system operators (TSOs).

Litgrid sends a third aid package to help rebuild Ukraine’s energy infrastructure

Litgrid, Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator, is sending its third aid package to Ukraine, consisting of an autotransformer and transmission grid equipment. This will help secure electricity supplies and rebuild the country's energy infrastructure damaged during the war.

Third synchronous condenser arrived in Lithuania: installation work begins

Synchronous condenser, the largest piece of equipment in the electricity transmission network required for synchronisation with Continental Europe, has been successfully delivered to the Neris transformer substation near Vilnius, and installation work has begun. This project, carried out by Litgrid, Lithuania’s electricity transmission system operator, will enhance system reliability and contribute to Lithuania’s energy independence in preparation for synchronisation with the continental European grid and the development of renewable energy sources.

Tomas Varneckas, Head of Infrastructure and Project Management at EPSO-G has been elected for a second term as Chairman of the Board of Litgrid, the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator, at a meeting of the new Board held on Wednesday.

Litgrid's results for the first quarter: strategic projects successfully implemented, improved financial indicators.

In the first quarter of 2024, Litgrid, Lithuania's electricity transmission system operator, continued its preparations for synchronisation with the continental European grid, completed one of the strategic projects necessary for this preparation, and ensured reliable electricity transmission. Compared to the same period a year ago, the company's revenues and profits grew in the first quarter.

Litgrid's planned expansion of the Northwest electricity transmission network has been granted the status of special state importance

On Thursday, 9th May, the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania granted the status of a project of special national importance to Litgrid, the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator, for its planned electricity transmission network development projects in the Northwest of Lithuania. The construction of the new facilities will increase energy security, ensure the reliable transmission of electricity, stable operation of the system, and create conditions for the development of renewable energy sources.

New Litgrid Board elected, with two independent members from Dutch, German and Belgian TSOs

On 30 April, at the shareholders' meeting of the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid, a new Board was elected for a four-year term of office. The three members of the previous Board and two new independent members from the management teams of the Dutch, German and Belgian electricity transmission system operators were elected.

Independent members from TSOs in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium are nominated to the Litgrid Board

EPSO-G, the parent company of the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid, has nominated the members of the Board, which will be elected at the shareholders' meeting. In the newly formed board three members from the previous board and two new independent members from the management teams of electricity transmission system operators in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium are proposed.
