Electricity consumption increased by 2 % in 2014

At 9.84 billion kilowatt hours (kWh), or 2.1 % more than in 2013, electricity consumption in 2014 has been the highest since 2009.

The last section of NordBalt submarine cable has been manufactured

The remaining section of the NordBalt submarine cable has been manufactured in Karlskrona, Sweden. The total length of the cable which will interconnect the power systems of Lithuania and Sweden is 900 km.

Common Baltic electricity balancing market – important step towards European integration

The transmission system operators (TSOs) of the Baltic countries have created a platform for a common imbalance settlement: since the start of 2015 differences between the planned and actual consumption of the electricity systems of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have been calculated jointly.

The first LitPol Link transformer arrives in Alytus

The first of the eight transformers for LitPol Link, a power interconnection between Lithuania and Poland, has been delivered to Alytus. Loaded on a special trailer it was transported overnight from Klaipėda to the  Alytus region, where a HVDC back-to-back converter station for LitPol Link is being built.

Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid did not violate the terms of regulated activities and thus does not agree with the protocol of National Commission for Energy Control and Prices (hereinafter - the Commission) with regards to alleged violations.

The residents of the western part of Lithuania will now be able to enjoy a more reliable supply of electricity thanks to the reconstructed transformer substation in Klaipėda which will also ensure more secure transmission of electricity.

The construction of high voltage interconnections LitPol Link and NordBalt to connect Lithuania with Poland and Sweden is moving ahead: two thirds of NordBalt and half of LitPol Link works have been completed since the middle of the spring this year.

In November, the average electricity price in the Lithuanian trading zone of the Nord Pool Spot was 17.4 ct/kWh, a drop down by 6 percent compared to October, and was the lowest since May this year.

Baltic TSOs agreed on roadmap towards synchronization with Continental Europe

The three Baltic electricity transmission system operators (TSO) have developed an action plan towards synchronous operation with the network of Continental Europe, with the target of establishing synchronous operation by 2025.
