Synchronisation of Baltic countries - an important step towards Energy Union

New interconnections NordBalt and LitPol Link bring Europe closer to the vision of Energy Union, yet another indispensable step will be the synchronisation of Baltic power systems with Continental Europe networks. Such position was shared by the chairman of Litgrid Supervisory Board Aleksandras Spruogis in the meeting with the Vice-President of the European Commission  Maroš Šefčovič.

Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid is renewing the terms of typical construction and design agreements in order to ensure smoother cooperation with its contractors and the long-term quality of infrastructure projects.

LitPol Link starts regular operations

Lithuanian-Polish interconnection LitPol Link starts regular operations today. After successfully completing last tests, all the infrastructure of the power link was handed over from contractors to Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid.

Power successfully transmitted through NordBalt cable

Today electricity was transmitted through the NordBalt cable, connecting Lithuania and Sweden. During the test electricity was flowing from Sweden to Lithuania and the other way round, the interconnection was operating at 30 megawatts.

Litgrid, that manages high-voltage electricity transmission network, encourages its contractors to raise the quality bar of their contracted work. Already setting high standards for itself and companies participating in the development or reconstruction of the power grid, Litgrid will demand even more to ensure the reliable operation of the network and safety of the people working at the grid facilities or on its construction.

System tests are carried out at NordBalt converter station

Today during system tests of the interconnection between Lithuania and Sweden the NordBalt high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter station was switched on in Klaipėda.

Baltic Rules for the calculation and allocation of cross-border capacities approved by all Baltic Regulators and become effective from 1 January 2016

All National Regulatory Authorities of Baltic countries have assessed and approved the rules for the calculation and allocation of cross-border capacities within Baltic countries and with the third countries.

New interconnections open electricity highways to Europe for the Baltic countries

Today in Vilnius, on December 14th, a new energy victory was symbolically commemorated for two new international electricity interconnections, the LitPol Link and NordBalt, bringing Lithuania and the Baltic countries back on the map of Europe’s electricity grid.

On 14 December the new era with Lithuania on the European energy map will start when the heads of Lithuania and neighbouring countries symbolically activate the interconnections LitPol Link and NordBalt.
