The installed capacity of wind and solar power plants in Lithuania has reached 6 GW

The installed capacity of wind and solar power plants connected to Lithuania’s electricity transmission and distribution networks has reached 6 GW, according to data from Litgrid, the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator. Since the beginning of this year, the capacity of renewable energy plants in Lithuania has increased by nearly 0.3 GW, and by nearly 2 GW over the past 12 months.

Litgrid Modernizes Power Transmission Network Maintenance: Launches Periodic Aerial Scanning

The map provides information on where and at what capacity electricity consumers could be connected to the transmission network, based on previously completed assessments. Litgrid 2025 results: operating more reliably in continental Europe, strengthening system resilience, developing interconnections

Last year, Litgrid, the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator, implemented synchronisation with continental European grid and successfully maintained the operation of the system in the Continental Europe Synchronous Area. In 2025, Litgrid improved electricity supply reliability indicators and consistently implemented strategic projects to increase the resilience of the electricity system and interconnection capacity. Due to temporary factors in the electricity balancing market, the company's net profit decreased, but adjusted EBITDA and profit indicators were better compared to the results of 2024.

Baltic-German PowerLink: Germany, Latvia and Lithuania plan joint power project in the Baltic Sea

Germany, Latvia and Lithuania are planning a joint cross‑border European electricity transmission project in the Baltic Sea. The Baltic-German PowerLink is intended to connect the three countries as well as offshore wind farms off the Baltic coast and thus contribute to strengthening security of supply and energy sovereignty. The transmission system operators 50Hertz (Germany), AST (Latvia) and Litgrid (Lithuania) have been commissioned to develop a technical and economic implementation concept by autumn, thereby fulfilling the European Union’s requirements for funding as a Project of Common Interest (PCI).
