Invitation to Respond to the Public Consultation on the Projects that could be Potentially Included in the List of PCI

Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid invites to respond to a public consultation on the projects, which could be potentially included in the list of Projects of Common Interest (PCI).  Litgrid presents its proposal to include the construction of 500 MW back to back converter station near Alytus 330kV substation, construction of double circuit 400kV overhead line between Alytus and PL-LT border and construction of double circuit 330 kV overhead line Alytus-Kruonis. These infrastructure projects are scheduled for completion in 2015-2017.

The second project that could be potentially included in the list of PCI covers the construction of the second 500 MW back to back converter station in Lithuanian territory. This project will enable an additional 500 MW exchange of electricity between Lithuanian and Polish markets.

The third project would allow to integrate the Lithuanian electricity grid to the continental European networks to work with synchronous mode. It is offered to include to the list of PCI the construction of 330 kV overhead power line Visaginas-Kruonis, the construction of 330 kV overhead power line Vilnius-Neris and the construction of 400 kV interconnector necessary for synchronization with the Synchronous Grid of Continental Europe.

You can submitt your written comments by 08.02.2014 to the email address: [email protected]. The document of public consultation can be found here

The list of PCI is updated every two years. On November 2013 the European Commission decided to enlist 248 PCIs. A PCI has to have significant benefits for at least two Member States, contribute to market integration and further competition, enhance security of supply and reduce CO2 emissions.
